The iconic founders of Bliss Boutique introduce their home collection to the Old Port
Old Port Square is thrilled to welcome Baske, a new homewares retailer, to 42 Exchange Street. With this announcement, Baske will join an impressive and growing list of existing local and national retailers within the Old Port Square district, including Warby Parker and Rough & Tumble.
Located in the heart of Portland’s historic Old Port neighborhood, the Old Port Square district combines both significant new construction with the revitalization of existing structures across a four-acre site, featuring retail, restaurants, hotels, residences, offices, parking and outdoor community spaces throughout.Old Port Square is owned and managed by local real estate investment, development and management company East Brown Cow who, in partnership with Malone Commercial Brokers, carefully curates the tenancies throughout the district.
Twenty-three years after opening their first women’s boutique on Exchange Street, Angela and John Foddrill announced this spring that Bliss Boutique is moving to a larger space in the award-winning Thompson Block at 121 Middle Street. They are transforming the original Exchange Street storefront within Old Port Square into their new home collection, Baske. This is in addition to Little, their sister store also on Exchange Street, that sells premium children’s brands and clothing.
“We are delighted to see Angela and John thrive and expand here in the Old Port,” said Jacob Soley of East Brown Cow. “When we consider potential tenants, we look for local makers and purveyors who are deeply passionate about their products. That creativity adds a personal energy to the Old Port that is felt by every visitor. Supporting that authenticity strengthens the entire downtown ecosystem—creating a dynamic, sustainable environment where local talent and national brands complement each other. That balance helps the Old Port evolve while staying true to its roots.”
Baske (pronounced “bask”) invites customers to revel in the warmth, comfort, and enjoyment of their homes. The store will carry a variety of brands, including Business and Pleasure Co, Sunday Supply Co, Saarde, Immodest Cotton, Flamingo Estate, Serax, Rosie Jane, and more.
“The name Baske comes from the verb ‘to bask,’” explains Angela Foddrill, co-founder. “It captures our philosophy that home should bea place where you can truly savor moments and find comfort in intentionally createdsurroundings. At Baske, we're passionate about connecting indoor and outdoor living. Living in New England, we treasure our time outdoors and believe in blurring the lines between inside and outside spaces. This philosophy is at the heart of how we select pieces.”
